Be thankful for what you have

Today I was going to blog about birthdays, but something made me change my mind. I’m not normally the kind of person to go on about the bad things happening in the world but today I wanted to mention something.

I am part of an online knitting community and it has members from all across the world. Someone posted who lives in California. In case any of you don’t already know there are really bad wildfires raging across California. She posted to say that the fires were soon to be passing close to her house. A matter of hours later she posted to say the fires had changed direction and were going straight towards her house. She had to get out and fast!

She said she had managed to grab a few things and her cats and dogs, and went to her parents’ house. However she didn’t have enough time to take her chickens or horses to safety. The only thing she was able to do was let the chickens and horses go and hope they could escape.

When I read it the first thing I thought about was my own animals, I have a dog, cats, and rabbits. What would I do if I were in that position? I don’t have a car, it would be impossible to carry all of the animals. Which animals would I leave behind?

I am so thankful that I live in the UK and would not be in the same position as she was. It would break my heart to leave my home, the place that I have worked so hard for, all of the memories that are here. And to leave my animals is the most unthinkable thing.

So really I just wanted to say we all need to be thankful for what we have, appreciate what we have, love we have. You never know when it might all be taken away from you.

See you soon!
